Burg Feistritz - a retreat for closed groups

Arcade Courtyard, Knights' Hall and Castle Chapel

Situated only 80 km south of Vienna, Burg Feistritz is nestled in the green hills of the Wechselland. As a private family residence, it opens its doors to larger closed groups looking for a cultivated and historic ambience for joint work or experiences.

Centuries of development, careful renovations and cultural wealth have transformed the original medieval fortress into an inviting and impressive castle.

Charming historic rooms and a variety of beautiful and comfortable guest rooms invite you to be creative together, to exchange ideas and to create as a team.

The old stone steps of the arcaded courtyard lead to the Knights' Hall with a Bösendorfer grand piano, the castle chapel, terraces, studios and seminar rooms, as well as to the castle's comfortable and individual guest rooms.

    Castle Rooms & Cavalier Houses

Overnight stays at Burg Feistritz are possible for groups of up to 60 people in comfortable single and double rooms. The rooms are spread over the old castle and the two cavalier houses, which offer plenty of privacy for smaller seminars or for gatherings of friends and large families. These houses have spacious living and/or working areas, well-equipped kitchens, as well as private terraces with unobstructed views over the village of Feistritz am Wechsel.

14 comfortable double rooms (7 double rooms per house).

    Castle park & Garden

Feistritz Castle and the Cavaliers' Houses are surrounded by a charming historical park, which was built in the early 19th century in the style of a romantic English landscape garden. With its old trees, open green spaces, ponds, sculptures and various elements of romantic garden architecture, the park fits harmoniously into the surrounding green hills.

    Old Riding School

The Old Riding School with its rustic beam structure was built in the early 19th century on the former tournament grounds. It offers a very large and atmospheric space for parties, workshops, exhibitions and concerts. Equipped with a large stage and catering facilities, the Old Riding School is also the venue for the annual Summer Music Festival.

    History

In the flow of water, people and history

The Slavic name Feistritz is derived from Bystrica and means flowing water. Feistritz is still the name of the small village and the beautiful small river that runs through it, as well as the name of the medieval castle that rises above the village.

Built in the 12th century as a defiant fortress to protect against warlike invasions from the east, fresh running water from its own springs has been a prerequisite for life and survival within the castle's thick walls to this day.

After surviving three Turkish wars, the medieval fortress was extended in the 17th century and the defiant castle was transformed into a homely palace. The beautiful arcades in the courtyard and the pretty staircase date back to this conversion.

In the spirit of early Romanticism, an English landscape garden with sculptures, ponds, grottos and sculptures was created in the 19th century. The interior of the castle was furnished with precious collections of weapons and art objects and a private castle theatre was built, with the castle lords already becoming patrons of art and culture at that time.

As with almost all castles and palaces in Europe, there have always been periods of construction and decay in the almost 1000-year history of Burg Feistritz. Castle families came and castle families went, shaped by war or peace, the spirit of the times or their own personal fates.

The current private castle family has resided at the castle for almost 60 years. They are happy to selectively open the large gates for closed groups of people who are looking for peace and inspiration in the beauty and privacy of the old walls to create or experience together for several days.

Thus, Burg Feistritz has developed into its own stage for music, art and science or for larger private parties. The guests become part of history, their own stories carry them out into the world.

And the clear and healthy water of the old springs continues to flow in and around the castle as it did 1000 years ago.
