Sustainability & Family Paradise

The Waldschlössl is run in a very family-like atmosphere. Landlord Christian takes care of the renovation and management of the Waldschlössl. Housewife Zita takes care of the guest services. Their son Leno makes sure that nobody gets bored at the Waldschlössl.

Our two flats and the family rooms have all been newly and comfortably refurbished. Towels, cot, hairdryer, W-LAN and satellite TV are available in all flats and rooms. Each flat has their own kitchen. The kitchens are well equipped with crockery, coffee maker, blender and kettle.

For us sustainability is not just an empty phrase. We live according to it and in all decisions that have to be made, we always ask ourselves what makes the most sense ecologically. When you visit the Waldschlössl, you will also notice that sustainability is practised here. The Waldschlössl is heated with geothermal energy, there is no oil or gas connection, but there is a photovoltaic system.

While many are content to buy locally and keep transport distances short, we try to produce as much of the fruit and vegetables consumed at the Waldschlössl as possible in our own garden. Of course, this is also reflected in the menu of the café - here we want to serve what our garden has to offer. Purchases cannot be avoided, of course, but these are regional, seasonal and organic as far as possible.

The Waldschlössl is easily accessible by public transport. From the Payerbach-Reichenau railway station it is a ten-minute walk (albeit uphill) to the Waldschlössl. As an incentive for our guests to travel by public transport, we offer a 10% discount on overnight stays at the Waldschlössl when travelling by public transport. As we are aware that with luggage the last few metres to the accommodation can be a challenge, we are happy to offer to pick up our guests from the train station in Payerbach by car.

This area is particularly popular for its wonderful nature: hiking, golf and skiing, mountain bike trails and tennis invite you to enjoy wonderful sporting experiences in the fresh air of the Semmering region.

History of the house and its residents:

The wonderful time of the turn of the century

In the boom years of the Semmering region around 1900, when summer retreats for the Viennese middle and upper classes were in fashion, the Waldschlössl also went through turbulent times. Acquired by a Viennese banker in 1881 and substantially rebuilt, it housed Archduke Leopold Salvator of Austria-Tuscany and his family in summer of 1901. In the same year, the Waldschlössl was sold to the Viennese architect Franz Kupka, who was responsible for a large number of buildings in Vienna (including at least five buildings on Mariahilferstrasse).

He essentially gave the Waldschlössl its present appearance and sold it again in 1904. From then on, the Waldschlössl was run as a guesthouse and from 1948 onwards as a health resort. Since 1971, when the health resort was closed, the Waldschlössl has primarily been used for long-term residential purposes, especially after the extension of the upper floor, where five flats were built in the 1990s.

The current owner bought the Waldschlössl in 2019 and has dedicated himself entirely to the topic of sustainability under the slogan "sustainable holidays - sustainable enjoyment". Since 2021, guests are again welcome to rent flats and rooms at the Waldschlössl.
